On Target's - Defensive Handgun : Level I
To build a solid foundation of fundamental concepts and techniques necessary to develop efficient defensive handgun skills and a defensive mindset for citizens who carry handguns for self-defense. Upon completion of this course you will have a fundamental understanding of the defensive use of the handgun.
The principles of Defensive Handgun I are the basis upon which all other courses are built. This course gives you a solid fundamental grounding and understanding of modern gun fighting and the use of the defensive pistol.
Most defensive firearm courses teach you how to mechanically operate a machine (firearm) in a variety of circumstances. However, you also need a philosophical, social, and legal context to apply these mechanical skills or you will miss critical steps in your survival. This course introduces the student to techniques applicable to defensive use of the handgun. Emphasis is put on shooting skill development for application in real-life circumstances. The fundamentals of Mindset, Gun-handling, and Marksmanship are covered in lecture while the practical aspects are taught on the range.
Other course topics include Situational Awareness, Equipment Selection, Safety, Handling, Loading, Unloading, Malfunction Clearance, Drawing and Firing Techniques, Movement, and the use of Cover and Concealment.
Note: This course entails the use of a handgun for self-defense. It is not a basic firearms safety course for those individuals that are not familiar with the basic and safe handling of their handgun or those wishing to obtain a handgun carry permit. This course provides training and instruction in advanced handgun techniques.
